A mother and her daughters start a family business offering unique travel experiences in small town Mexico.

Launch of an experienced based, artisanal tourism business aims to promote the richness and realness of this little known part of northwest Mexico.

Álamos, Sonora, Mexico. May 10, 2024. Jennifer MacKay and her daughters, Salina and Elly, have called Álamos, Sonora home for 30 years. Through ALAMANOS they share their local insights and passion for regenerative tourism by creating meaningful experiences for travelers all the while benefiting their beloved community.

ALAMANOS offers experiences that highlight the magic of historical Álamos. Custom itineraries for small private groups are their specialty, curated from a variety of activities ranging from hiking and yoga to Bacanora tastings and visits with craftspeople. They also keep a calendar of scheduled experiences. These multi-day itineraries include the crafts, cuisine + culture experience, which offers a perspective into the rich and unique heritage of the region, and the essence retreat, which is centered around leisure, reflection and self-care practices. In addition, ALAMANOS is developing a line of handmade goods that highlight artisanal talent with the intention of growing and reviving the crafts trades.

Mexico has always been a popular destination for American travelers, in spite of the ‘bad press’ it receives from the U.S. media. Personal stories and word-of-mouth recommendations continue to sustain the success of Mexico’s tourism. The warmth and charm of its culture and people attracts millions of travelers year after year. Furthermore, the trend towards regenerative and sustainable industries continues to prosper. At the heart of ALAMANOS is the desire to share the essential beauty of living in reciprocity with our world. The endeavor of forming a line of goods handmade by an artisan collective arises from their vision of fostering the artisanal trades and supporting those who wish to make a living from their craft.

“As a young family, we were welcomed with open arms and after all these years we have become deeply connected and very much a part of the fabric of Álamos,” says Jennifer MacKay, co-founder of ALAMANOS. “Álamos has given us such a wonderful life, we love sharing this special place with others and giving back to our community in the ways we can.”

ALAMANOS has already hosted several group experiences so far this year, with more on the schedule. They have been visiting with several enthusiastic artisans who share their collective vision and have been making product orders.
